VA “Sweet Relief 3: Love Is Everywhere”

LOLASやThe Red Buttonなどの作品を手がけたJAM Recordsよりリリースされた「Sweet Relief」シリーズの第三弾。ShoesやThe Recordsといった大御所から、LOLAS・Daniel Wylieなどの実力派、Cirroneのような注目の若手まで、文字通り古今東西のアーティストが参加している。日本からはThe Mayflowersが前回に引き続き参加した。錚々たる面子の中にあっても確かな存在感を放っていて、同じ日本人として誇らしい気持ちになる。

楽曲的には中期ビートルズのようなサイケ・ポップ、またはジャングリーなギター・ポップが多く、60年代〜90年代で見られる味わいが好きな方には特におすすめできる。あるいはもっと抽象的に「ビートルズみたいな、ちょっとレトロでポップな雰囲気」ぐらいのイメージで考えている方にもおすすめできるかもしれない。

そこそこ名の通っているバンドもいるし、概ね似通ったスタイルを持ったバンドが集まっているので、パワー・ポップの入門書としても、好みのスタイルをさらに深掘りする羅針盤としても、大活躍してくれることだろう。
