イリノイのアコースティックな’ゆったり’ルーツロックバンドJeff Elbel + Ping。彼らはまさにボブ・ディランのハートとキンクスのソウルの融合。決して安易なフックに頼らない曲作りと何度聴いても飽きないアレンジがCakeやCracker、They Might Be Giantsのファンらに広く受け入れられている。「土壇場の物語」と名づけられたアルバムはJeffのストーリー・テラーとしての才能も大きく花開いた作品といえるだろう。そんな才能に対してゲストギターandrewesley、ゲストオルガンにPhil Madeira (Buddy Miller, Emmylou Harris)らも共鳴している。なおマスタリングはWilcoなど手がけるDan StoutがシカゴのColossal Masteringで行った。
